March is Music in Our Schools Month! CCS celebrates the power of music education to inspire creativity, build confidence, and enrich student learning.

March is National Social Work Month! We honor CCS social workers who make a lasting impact by supporting students, families, and schools. Thank you to Ms. Davis and Ms. Robinson, our Social Workers, who work very diligently to better the lives of SVMS students. You are appreciated.

Cumberland County Schools is leading a community-driven process throughout this school year (2025-2026) to develop a new strategic plan to guide our work and ensure we provide a safe, positive and rigorous learning environment to prepare lifelong learners to reach their maximum potential.

March is National Child Nutrition Month, highlighting the importance of healthy meals in supporting student wellness and academic success. CCS is proud to nourish minds and bodies every day.

Women's History Month is celebrated in March to recognize and honor the often-overlooked contributions, achievements, and impact of women throughout U.S. history, stemming from local celebrations in the late 1970s that grew from a push for equal representation and recognition, leading to a presidential proclamation in 1980 and its official designation by Congress in 1987.  

On March 26, 2026, eight middle school district-winning teams from across the Sandhills Region IV District, including Bladen, Columbus, Cumberland, Hoke, Moore, Robeson, Sampson, and Scotland counties, competed in the annual Battle of the Books competition. The atmosphere was filled with excitement as students demonstrated not only their deep knowledge of this year’s books but also remarkable teamwork, focus, and composure. The competition remained close throughout the day, and we are proud to announce the top three teams: 
---3rd Place -Robeson County
---2nd Place - Moore County
---1st Place - Cumberland County (South View Middle)
South View’s team of three students was truly on their game, answering with confidence and consistency throughout the day. They now advance to the State Battle of the Books competition to represent Cumberland County and Sandhills Region IV on April 27, 2026, in Statesville, NC. Congratulations and Good Luck!

In honor of Dr. Seuss’ birthday, March is designated as National Reading Month – a month to motivate Americans of all ages to read every day.  Reading is fun and has many benefits, regardless of your age. It’s a key component of education and professional development. It also has immediate and long-lasting health benefits, such as increased cognitive function, memory, and vocabulary, and decreased stress levels.  "The more that you read, the more things you will know.
