2026-2027 Back-to-School Superintendent’s Message
Dear CCS Families,
Welcome to the 2026–27 school year!
One year ago, I stepped into Cumberland County Schools as superintendent, ready to listen, learn and get to work. Since then, I have visited schools, spent time in classrooms and had countless conversations with students, staff, families and community partners across our district.
Those conversations helped shape something significant: the Cumberland County Board of Education’s unanimous approval of Strategic Plan 2026–2031: The Path to CCS Excellence — One Vision. One Journey. Success for All. This five-year roadmap reflects what our community told us matters most.
This year, that plan moves from paper to practice. Every school, every department and every staff member will work from the same roadmap toward the same goal: making Cumberland County Schools the highest-performing district in North Carolina. Our four pillars, Successful Students, Premier Professionals, Exceptional Environments and Committed Community, will guide and strengthen our work throughout the year.
As we move from planning to action, my philosophy remains the same as it was on day one: Is it best for students? That question will guide every decision we make, from the classroom to the boardroom. I also remain committed to keeping score, knowing how we are doing by school, by classroom and by student, because that is how we improve, grow and deliver on our promise to children.
Reaching our goals will take all of us. It will take dedicated educators, engaged families, committed staff, strong community partners and students who know we believe in their potential. Thank you for the trust you continue to place in Cumberland County Schools. We have a plan, we have momentum and we have each other. I am excited about the journey ahead, and I look forward to all that we will accomplish together this school year.
